Tribute To Mrs. Laura Daye

Mom was born in Acaciaville Digby County and moved to Halifax in her early twenties. She married Delmore Buddy Daye and together they raised their nine children. She was a member of the New Horizon Baptist Church for over 60 years. She served as a Deaconess as well as numerous committees and choirs such as the Black Symposium Choir and Drama Group who sang before Queen Elizabeth, Missionary Society, Helping Hand Society, Church Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent and Senior Choir for more than 50 years. The congregation had been favored by her soprano solos for many decades. She was also an active member of community based organizations such as the Halifax Council of Women, Halifax Ladies Music Club, and Past Noble Grand Master of the Wilberforce Lodge. Mom was employed by the Halifax Regional School Board for 27 years. She was a teacher’s assistant in Special Education and Resource. Many youths within the community can attest to her dedication in helping children read. Following her retirement from the school system she continued her legacy of service as a volunteer at the Halifax Infirmary. Mom was sincere, hardworking Christian lady who loved the Lord, her church and her community. Many lives have been impacted by her wisdom, influence and prayer. She was a loving caregiver, mother and wife. She was often the strong quiet force behind her husband Bud’s very public involvements. She had a tremendous sense of humour, wit, “quick tongue,” style and class. She loved to travel and walk or run the Commons everyday at 6:00am well into her senior years. Mom, Nanny, Granny, Aunt Laura or Laura will be missed by the many lives she touched.
