Keynote / Plenary Speakers
Hannah Crouse (She/They) is a research assistant at Dalhousie University and a second-year Sociology PhD student at Carleton University. Growing up in rural Nova Scotia on her parent’s dairy farm, Hannah has developed a sincere interest in understanding rural communities as sites of social change. Her academic work is focused on 2S/LGBTQ+ people’s health across the life course, including their experiences related to dementia, grief, long-term care, and rural schools.
Dr. Cortney Smith BSc H.,MD CFFP CAC Palliative Care, Assistant professor, Dept of Family Medicine, Dalhousie University: Dr. Cortney Smith is the palliative care unit clinical lead at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. She provides inpatient and outpatient community-based care with the Northern Zone Colchester East Hants team. Her areas of interest include teaching residents, early advanced care planning, palliative care in rural areas, and end-of-life care for patients with ALS. She graduated from Dalhousie Family Medicine in 2008 and completed her Palliative Medicine fellowship year in 2009. She achieved her Palliative Care CAC in 2015 from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. She regularly presents online and in person, providing LEAP Core and is a LEAP Teaching Coach through Pallium Canada.
