History

The NSHPCA thanks the many individuals who laid the early groundwork in palliative care when there was little or no funding and limited awareness surrounding end of life care. These individuals were visionary leaders in moving the palliative care agenda forward.

History of the association

• Halifax hosted the first provincial conference on palliative care. 

• An informal group known as the NSHPC Network was established as a means of sharing, providing education, and for individuals doing like work to support each other.

• NSHPCA was incorporated under the Society’s Act.  

• The group became a registered charitable organization.
